 Many occupations today require people who can write and speak well. Undergraduates of English are especially valued because of their communication skills and their knowledge of the language. Employers recognize this fact, making an English major a valuable asset in any job search.

The skills that an individual who graduates with an Associate of Arts of English will possess include:

Ability to organize thoughts, ideas, and materials

Ability to analyze texts and interpret their meaning

Ability to argue positions effectively

Ability to analyze the written word

Ability to write in an articulate manner

Ability to research and explain the results

Working knowledge of grammar and vocabulary

Ability to be a creative thinker

Ability to critically observe the world around them

Editor/ editorial assistant

Educational sales representative

Film researcher

Information abstractor/indexer

Journalist (newspaper/magazine/broadcast)
