NLC Scholarships


Scholarships

Scholarships for Northeast Lakeview College students are made possible through the generosity of donors to the Alamo Colleges Foundation. For over 40 years, donors have provided funding for scholarships to students across the Alamo Colleges District in Bexar County.

Since its establishment, Northeast Lakeview College has received numerous public and private funds to support its students.  Below is a list of scholarships specifically designated for Northeast Lakeview College students.

 

Burton Scholarship

The Burton Scholarship was established by Terry and Lucretia Burton to support students attending Northeast Lakeview College who previously attended high school in the Comal or New Braunfels Independent School District.

 

Dr. Veronica R. Garcia Presidential Endowed Scholarship

The Dr. Veronica R. Garcia Presidential Endowed Scholarship is a scholarship initiative that aims to support and encourage exceptional academic performance among students pursuing higher education.

 

Dr. Veronica R. Garcia President’s Leadership Scholarship

The Dr. Veronica R Garcia Presidents Leadership Scholarship is a unique scholarship opportunity for students who have demonstrated exceptional leadership potential and community involvement by participating in extracurricular activities, volunteer work, or other forms of community service.

 

E.F. “Smiley” and Sandra Williams Endowed Founders Scholarship

The E.F. “Smiley” and Sandra Williams Endowed Founders Scholarship award was established by Mr. and Mrs. Williams to support NLC students pursuing careers in the field of education.

 

Firstmark Credit Union Endowed Founder’s Scholarship

The Firstmark Credit Union Endowed Scholarship was established by Firstmark Credit Union to support the post-secondary education aspirations of students enrolled at Northeast Lakeview College.

 

International Education Scholarship

The International Education Scholarship helps to fund study abroad opportunities for Northeast Lakeview College students participating in the Alamo Colleges Study Abroad Program.

 

Jordan Ford, Ltd. Founder’s Scholarship

Established by Jordan Ford, Ltd., this scholarship is dedicated to providing financial support to students seeking higher education at Northeast Lakeview College.  First priority is given to employees of Jordan Ford, Ltd. and their dependents. Second priority is given to NLC students majoring in business and finance.

 

Minnie Stevens Piper First-Generation College Scholar

The Minnie Stevens Piper First-Generation College Scholar Scholarship was established by the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation to help first-generation Northeast Lakeview College students with college expenses.

 

Northeast Lakeview College Faculty Endowed Scholarship

The Northeast Lakeview College Faculty Endowed Scholarship was established in 2016 by the Northeast Lakeview College Faculty Senate to support students in their educational pursuits.

 

Northeast Lakeview College General Scholarship

The Northeast Lakeview College General Scholarship was established and funded by NLC faculty and staff to support NLC students with a minimum 2.0 gpa on a 4.0 scale.

 

Phi Theta Kappa-Beta Sigma Delta Chapter Scholarship

The Phi Theta Kappa - Beta Sigma Delta Chapter Scholarship recognizes the academic achievement of Northeast Lakeview College students to encourage its members growth as scholars and leaders.

 

Randolph- Brooks Federal Credit Union Founder’s Scholarship

The Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union Founder’s Scholarship established this scholarship for the express purpose of developing scholarship opportunities for students pursuing a college education at Northeast Lakeview College.
 

Rent Veil Scholarship

The Rent Veil Scholarship supports Northeast Lakeview College students majoring in each of the science, technology, engineering, arts, and math fields.

 

Rent Veil Scholarship for Parenting Students

The Rent Veil Scholarship for Parenting Students supports parenting Northeast Lakeview College students pursuing a degree or certificate.  Preference is given to parenting students with children under age 18.

 

 

Applying for Scholarships at Northeast Lakeview College

At Northeast Lakeview College, students will be considered for Alamo Colleges Foundation and Northeast Lakeview College scholarships. One application annually allows students to be considered for all available scholarships.

General Scholarship Eligibility

To apply for a scholarship at Northeast Lakeview College, students must

Be enrolled at Northeast Lakeview College;

Be enrolled full-time or part-time;

Be pursuing a degree or certificate;

Have and maintain at least a 2.00 - 4.00 GPA;

Maintain satisfactory academic progress as required by Student Financial Services;

Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen;

Not be related to any Alamo Colleges District Board of Trustees or Foundation Board members.

Applying for Scholarships

Applicants must apply annually between mid-January and mid-May.

Some scholarships are awarded based on financial need, so it is recommended that students also complete a FAFSA (www.fafsa.ed.gov) to have on file in the Northeast Lakeview College Financial Aid Office if a student wants to be considered for any of those scholarships.

 

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship judges will review, rate and rank scholarship applications. Scholarship judges are Northeast Lakeview College faculty, staff, and community leaders. Each scholarship application is scored by a minimum of two judges who consider the applicants’ GPA, academic plans, involvement in extracurricular activities, leadership skills, participation in community service as included in the response to the essay prompt.

Scholarship Time-line

The scholarship application opens mid-January and the deadline is mid-May.  Applications are reviewed and judged by late May and awardees are notified over the summer.

Scholarship Renewal

Some scholarships are renewable. These scholarships will be renewed on a semester-by-semester basis as long as the recipient maintains the scholarship criteria. Recipients will be notified at the time of the initial award if their scholarship is renewable.

Revocation of Award

Northeast Lakeview College and the Alamo Colleges Foundation reserve the right to cancel any scholarship at any time if the recipient fails, has falsified any reported information, or if the recipient fails to maintain satisfactory academic progress or the scholarship criteria.
