Associate of Arts, concentration in Communication Studies

The Associate of Arts with a concentration Communication Studies degree is designed by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to facilitate transfer to public two-year and four-year colleges and universities throughout Texas.  Communication Studies concentration can be foundational to any Baccalaureate degree or vocational choice. Numerous studies find communication skills as one of the most desirable personal qualities for future employees.  Students may choose from a number of courses to complete their major including interviewing, small group discussion, interpersonal communication, presentational speaking and oral interpretation.

Communication Studies (5031)


Degree Total: 60-63 Credit Hours


Communications (9 hours)


 

 

Take 1 course from the Additional Communication (11) Core 

NOTE: Check with transfer institution for requirement for specific major.

Mathematics (3-4 hours)


Take one course from the following Mathematics (20) Core 

Natural Science (7-8 hours)


Take two courses from the Natural Sciences (30) Core 

Humanities and Visual/Performing Arts (9 hours)


Take one course from the Humanities (40) Core 

Take one course from the Additional Humanities (41) Core 

Take one course from the Visual and Performing Arts (50) Core 

 

Social and Behavioral Sciences (15 hours)


Take two courses from the History (60) Core 

Take two courses from the Government (70) Core 

Take one course from the Social and Behavioral Sciences (80) Core 

Kinesiology (2 hours)


Take two hours from the following Kinesiology (90) Core

A course may be used only once to fulfill degree requirements.

Check with the institution to which you plan to transfer to ensure that courses taken at NLC are the courses that will apply to the appropriate degree.
