Orientation to Internet Courses

If this is the first time you have enrolled in a course online, make plans to participate in the required Orientation before classes start. Register for OLRN 0001, Orientation to Online Learning. The orientation to online learning is a free, non-credit course for students new to online learning. The orientation can be completed all online. The purpose of the orientation is to provide students with information about learning online. Student will have an opportunity to practice using some of the more common tools used in the online environment.

Internet Courses

An Internet Course is a course that meets online the majority or all of the time. Internet courses offer the convenience and flexibility of participating in a course without a formal schedule or location. However, a course can require that you meet on campus less than 15% of the time and still be considered an Internet Course. You might be required to come to campus to take tests, for scheduled presentations/speeches, or for course orientations.
Before you enroll, you should be confident about your own learning style and computer skills. Students new to Distance Learning courses, should enroll in OLRN 0001, a pre-course that orients students to best practices in online courses as well as how to operate in the learning management system for the course.  More information can be found below.

Blended Courses

A Blended Course (also referred to as a hybrid) is a course that replaces some of the face-to-face classroom sessions with online instruction. Classes do meet on campus for a major portion of time. You can expect to spend between 50-84% of the class time completing activities on your own using the Internet. Blended courses, like online courses, require students to be confident about their own learning style and computer skill level.
Students enrolled in Internet Courses have access to Academic, Student, and College support services through their course and the college webpage. These services include: Library Instruction, Resources, and Services, Academic Support (tutoring), Academic Testing, Advising, Career Planning, etc.
Please visit us at the eLearning Center if you would like more information or assistance with Internet Courses. We are located at the Northeast Lakeview Library, NLIB 306 or call us at 210-486-5372.
